Board Progression Advise

Hi

have been surfing with my Bic 7'9" mini-mal for over a year now and can pop up ok and ride along the wave and do slow turns on waves around the 2-3 ft size. (east coast)
I want to go faster now and do more stuff but feel this board is holding me back.
im looking at the Bic 6'7" shortboard purely because it is well priced and indestructable like the mini-mal and i want to go shortboard really.
Im around 6ft and 12 1/2 stone.
is this board too much of a leap forward? will i progress on it or just catch nothing and get frustrated? i still plan on keeping my mal.

any advise would be great help

if you want to progres dont get another bic, youve got a few choices, go for a large fish, around the 6'4 area because it will probably be 20"+ in width which wil giv stability, and it wil be thinker than a normal shortboard.

OR

you could get a 6'8 shortboard that is around 19-20" wide but not as thick as the fish so it wil probably be more munoverable.


thoes are your 2 main options, but i wouldnt advise a bic because it wil still limit you to what you can do cas there big eavy and bulky.


or you can do what i did and buy a performance longboard, with practice you can turn them like shortboards so its worth concidering.

Are the Bics really that bad? i liked them to learn on and the shortboard has a good write up. im no pro and dont want to be, just want to get some more pacey racey rides.
i live 2 hours from the coast and get out about once/twice a month so not looking for anything amazing.

i feel safe with a Bic, i know thats boring but from my own personal experience with them, they're ok. i realise i dont have anything to compare it with.
my bro rides the long boards, he catches some awesome rides, and i sometimes think "yeah maybe i should". Maybe i still will!
