Surfing in L.A?

Dear All

I will go to visit LA on 12/8 for 4 days.
And I would like to learn surfing in L.A.

Can anyone recommend a place that can learn surfing for 1 day or a lesson. Or anyone live in LA can teach me how to surf?

i learned on santa monica beach -- very easily accessible with nearby showers and lots of parking (for a price).

you can either check out what's available at ZJ's Boarding gallery which is nearby on the corner of Ocean Park and Main in "south" Santa Monica or check one of these sites for a lesson

hey dude, I surfed bay street today. wasn't too bad...although i must say rose and main is bit better...i rented a funboard from Bang's on Main Street and Pico for a good price. do you know any other cheap places? i rented a board for $25, including a spring suit for all day..

$25 for board and suit is pretty much standard. doubt you'll find anything much cheaper. If ur surfing all the time....maybe get ur own board... but thats just my 5 cents.

Btw... how is Santa monica compared to venice?

Cool. I need to rent a few times to get the hang of a funboard,mini-mal before I go out and buy one. It seems to work well, seeing that I can't surf much during the week...

Santa Monica vs. Venice...it might depend on the time of day and your level of surf (i'm a kook), but for my purposes, Venice can be less crowded and has steeper swells. they both have plenty of close out waves, though on the other hand, low tide in Santa Monica seems to have some decent formed waves, imho
