Why?

Postby Bwgan » Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:26 pm

Why do people insist on paddling out and stopping 10 meters in front of you? I watched a girl on sunday paddle straight out and stop immediatley in front of me? Anybody else have this or is it just me?

Probs cos she's a grom and knows no better until someone tells her or she learns the error of her ways :?.

Mind you I've done that before deliberately just to fck people off and to see how they deal with the take off when a set wave comes thru  , only people that are acting like dicks tho, then they usually start to paddle then stop cos I'm in the way and they think they can't make it and I take the wave instead :D !

Grom, scared of the bigger stuff and/or wants to catch the shoulder and/or whitewash instead of deal with a drop.

And when you paddle for a wave, they'll look at you like a deer in headlights making you either bail or perform a miracle of a takeoff turn to avoid them.

My cure? Ask them why they're sitting where they are then tell them to move somewhere more appropriate.

In san diego for me, you normally get boogie boards or swimmers, or ever worst moms with their dumb kids who choose to be right infront of you when there is a perfectly nice "swimming section". I dont know if they feel cool and all badass if they swim in the surfing section or what...

I've never noticed anyone doing that :?

I would have thought that you'd want to get to the line-up as quick as possible and then stop............or is that what you mean?

If it's hard paddle to get out back, I sometimes paddle past everyone to have a breather, knowing I'm not going to get mashed by the sets.
And then when I'm rested, I'll paddle to where the waves are.

Swimmers

Postby ken » Mon Aug 14, 2006 6:44 pm

I got that a lot when i went to france. Some random old guys would just swim out to just in front of the lineup and pretty much lie there when they could just go to the swimming area between the sandbars with the lifeguards

Yep happens to me all the time particually people wading/paddling. Its been even worse lately on my local beach with all the kelp and sea grass in the shallows. as there are only a few sections free of it creating a bottle neck. Its fun paddling for the same wave as 10 other surfers at the same time
