Funboard? And what size?

Postby skuba » Sat Aug 05, 2006 7:50 am

Hi Guys,

I am a beginner and looking for a board. I already bodyboarded and surfed as a kid, so I know how to paddle, break waves, position in the water, etc.. But now I am getting back into surfing so I need to improve standing up a lot.

I am 6'1" and 180lbs. At first I was thinking of getting a funboard 7'6", but now I am thinking I should get something bigger. But I do want to be able to maneuver the board once I stand up.

I will be surfing mostly huntington beach or manhattan beach in socal.

I will probably be looking an used 7'10" tomorrow , fun shape, and I am thinking it could be a good call? What do you think?

This is a poly one, any reason I should get an epoxy? There is this other guys selling new board for U$350, sizes like 7'8" and he said I can choose epoxy or poly.

Suggestions?

Thanks

a 7'10 sounds fine for a begginner to me. are you going to be surfin a lot? if so then it should be fine for you.

the epoxy/poly thing. poly boards arent as strong but epoxy isnt indestructable (a certain fin through surftech comes to mind) so as ong as you dont drop it or anything it should be ok.

have fun man

Thats alot your lucky, That should be fine I taught my friend how to surf on a 7'6 and he picked it up quickly it depends what you want to do eventually. If you want to become a shortboarder go for a smalll longboard then it dosent feel like a huge switch.

Guys, thanks for helping.

I bought the becker 7'10" this morning and already got in the water.
Wave conditions where not good, but I am very happy that I was able to drop the first 2 waves that I paddled into.

Take care and good waves!
