Interferance...?

Postby jennie » Fri Aug 04, 2006 7:55 pm

Just been watching the Rip Curl boardmasters online...and in the last heat one of the riders dropped in on one of the brazilian surfers...and there was a bit of confrontation. The result of the drop in was called as interferance on the riders behalf...

Just wondering what they mean by interferance and how it effects the score of the surfers involved...does it have any repurcutions?

Hey Jennie,
i think that the interferance was called because 1 rider was took off on the wave and the 2nd rider must of dropped in and messed up the 1st riders ride, Ive been called for interferance when i played ice hockey and Yank football at school.
Regarding the point's not too sure i'm afraid.. :?
But someone on this forum will be able to tell you.

I think when interferance is called the surfer interfering loses his or her highest scoring wave, but i'm not 100%| certain.

The rider who gets penalised because of an interference call has his second highest wave score halved.

In Blue Horizon it shows the 2003 final where Andy Irons and Kelly Slater were battlng it out for the title. Andy almost dropped in on Kelly but pulled out last second. It says in the movie, if he had dropped in on him he would have lost the final and Kelly would have won the title. Shame bout that :(

dunno if its still there but look on this years teauhpoo competiton site for the video of the inteference call against andy irons, resulted in him losing the heat and also both taking a nasty wipeout over the falls and over the reef.
