Nicaragua in January? S. hemisphere?

We've been up and down the Pacific coast of Mexico in winter and this winter for something different my wife and I are thinking of driving down to Nic. Does it pick up a NW swell and if so, any recommendations for breaks at that time? Our daughter and sig. other are wanting to join us for January. Does that timing work for Nic? I would appreciate any Southern Hemisphere suggestions as well.
