Roof racks on a beetle?

Postby Bubbletoes » Tue Aug 01, 2006 8:24 pm

Hey there

I've recently bought my first board and want to be ready to take it out as soon as I can - waves permitting. I've got a beetle (new style) and had bought some roof bars for it with the intention of getting a surfboard carrier to attach to them. I'm wondering if there is any way around this? A friend suggested some foam tubing and bungee cords?
But then i'm wondering if anyone knows whether a soft rack would work on my car? If so, I may take the roof bars back to VW and save myself some spondoolies. Not knowing what to do is giving me brain ache : D

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Leyla :)

I would have thought the rounded shape of the beatle roof would make a soft rack a bit tricky?

If it was me I would go for the VW rack and keep the boards clear of the paintwork.

Hi there - cheers for the reply : )

I think the VW rack is probably best too. It's just that I read a customer review on the Pro Rax system and someone had said it worked really well with their beetle which surprised me so I wondered whether it might be an option as it's a hell of a lot cheaper! : D

Guess i'll stick with what i've got though

Thanks again : D
