So ive been surfing about 4 or 5 times a week for about 3-4 hours a day. Anyway one day last week i went to the gym and had a really hard workout on my shoulders and back, then i went to the beach for probably my longest session yet (over 4 hours). By the end of the day i was dead. Anyway this all happened like last thrusday and ever since my left shoulder and tricep has been hurtin. But it only hurts when i start exercising like surifng or lifting, just regualr it doesnt bother me. So ive havent gone to the gym for the past week and have only been out surfing twice since the incident. So far i havent done anything physical for the past three days (except running). Anyway i cant take it anymore so i think ima head out to the beach tomrow anyway. My arm does feel better but do u think i should wait more till its completely healed or just go tomrow for an hour and half session and take it easier? like would it make like some kind of permanent damage or something on the muscle? is that possible? sorry for the long ass post :oops:

i have a fractured toe at the moment, and I went out this morning...hurt at first, but you get over it!

Its mostlikly a light pull/strain from the long exercise you've been doing.

if it gets worse you'll have to let it repair but other wise you'll be fine and in the long run could make the muscle stronger as it will rebuild around the strain bigger :p

be very careful if its a shoulder injury it might be your rotator cuff, if it is you really need to let it heal, these are only small muscles in your shoulder joint and are easily damaged but if they get torn they definatly dont heal stronger than before and you can end up with permament problems (kiss goodbye to surfing and weights).
Its probably not anything serious or youd be in more pain that you are but id get it checked out anyway and remember to warm up properly before any surfing or lifting (rotator cuff warm ups are easy - youve probably seen swimmers doing them at your local pool)

Yea; I reckon what you've done is be fit & readily adapted to a specific level of fitness & exercise...then you've thrown a full-on week into the mix, and then done (for god knows what reason) a hard upper body weights session, this tipped the balance from being a happily exhausted & worn out (surfed-out) body...to an injured one.

I'd go surfing, but go easy...and make mental notes on what happens and what hurts, how long it starts before it starts hurting...stuff like that, that way if it continues to hurt you can accurately tell your doctor what's going on.

If it continues to hurt, say if it's no better in several days... see a doctor.

some questions- how long have you been lifting? where you trying a new exercise that day or going for a max? was itr hurting straight after or was it just tired and then started to feel sore the next day? it might just be doms, in which case just go easy on it till it goes away (few days tops).
Really if you think your injured and are worried about it then dont post for advice on an interenet forum just go straight to the doc, if he tells you its nothing serious and you shouldnt worry then thats the best case scenario anyway.

Well i have been lifting for about 3 years and i have had workouts just as intense as i did that thursday, i think it was puttin those extra 4 hours surfin that over did it. Because im kinda new to surfin, i used to body board but you mostly use your legs in that, so i could work out my upper body the same day i bodyboarded. So i thought i would be okay doin the same for surfing, but surfing took much more of a toll on my upperbody that i thought it would. As far as the pain it just showed up the next day, its not alot mind you, but enough to feel and bother me. And i never got sore, the next day i just felt a pain as if i had strained something. but no soreness. But thanks everyone for your advice.
