2nd Time Out & I'm Really Bummed

Postby Sucka Free » Wed Jul 26, 2006 8:51 pm

My 1st time out was awesome; I got up on about 4 or 5 waves had a good time.

This time it seem like every time I caught a wave it was breaking on the front of my board and pushing me straight down in the water. Can you bros help me out; give me some clues on what I might be doing wrong. I caught the wave too soon? I'm too far forward on my board?
????
By the way I have an 8' tri fin board 23" wide by 3" thick

Thanks
JD

Hello!
i'm no expert here but i have been corrected recently for doing something which sounds similar - a mate saw i was struggling and gave me some tips.
If i'm wrong i really hope someone will correct me...
Here's my friends view -
A) you may be too far forward on the board thus you push the nose under when you catch the wave
B) you're popping up too far forwards, as in you haven't got your hands under your shoulders on the rails so when you push up, you push the nose down a bit, tipping you forwards. (this was my problem) I was advised to make sure my hands were tucked under my shoulders before i popped up and it really helped!
I hope i've got the right idea here, and i should really give all the credit for this to Si, my surfer friend, who gave me this advice.

I wouldn't sweat it. Happens to everyone; great session one day, crap the next.
Every day is different conditions and takes slight adjustments.

Just keep surfing!
See as how it was just your second session and your first session you actually caught waves; I'd say your doing great!
