What do i do?

I go surfing with my uncle. I use one of his boards. I really want to get into surfing and he told me to get a Foam Board. I know that they cost around $150. But i dont know what type of board to get! im about 5'0" Does anyone know what i should do?

i would advise not getting a foam board as you will not be abel to progress beond standing up and riding straight.
i would go for a board that is over 8 ft and around 22" wide and 2.5+ inches thick, these boards will alow you to go down the line and maby the odd turn. you could get a high performance longboard which will definately allow you to do turn if you stick with it.

go to your local surf shop and look around, also ask alot of questions because they should have the answer.

Alright just thought id add my bit !!! why does everybody tell newbies to get a long board when there equally hard to learn (or nearly)to turn and ride properly get a mini mal that way you still have buoncy but with abit of movement in the board .This may take slighty longer to stand but itll save you money in the end when you dont have to buy a smaller board.

What types of board sizes is considered a mini mal? I have a 7"4 fun board and was wondering if that was considered a mini mal or not?

Well, yea, i have heard for beginners to use longboards. But i am learning on a shortboard. (6'0") If you learn on a longboard you learn to ride, nothing else. If you learn on a shortboard. You learn, and then u can move and stuff. And you wont have to buy another board.

in that case go for a mini mal at 7ft 4 or 7ft 6
you will have too still buy a short board after but it is a bad idear too go for a short board first off it will take a long time too lean that why

I my honest opinion a long board is the best board to start out with. Then if you decide to go down in size, buy a short board, and keep the log for smaller days.

I've got to agree with Wood; longboards the best. However, if you can only surf in crowded situations you probably want to go with a used mini-mal (something you can turn). Then move to a longboard. Then to a shortboard. The longboard takes a good deal of effort and finesse to manuever. You'd be surprised how greatly it will improve your shortboarding style.

Er, no, its a funboard.
Mini-mal is in the shape as well as the length. A funboard is usually a little less rounded, and a little more like a shortboard, than a mini-mal.
