Car topping and board direction

Have board
Have car top rack

I know board goes fins up.. but nose first or tail first (in line with the hood: bonnet for those of you on the other side of the pond)? Which way should it point?

If you're using a board bag - fins to the rear (so the bag doesn't fill with air)

If NOT using a board bag, fins to the front - I learned this trick the hard way when a tie-down came loose and being fins to the rear the board gradually slid backwards and lurched upwards when finally free of the front tie. Board Snapped.
If I'd had it fins to the front it would have moved backwards about 4-8 inches, but still be held in place by the fins catching on the loose tie...

That's what I do...but everybody will have a different take on it.
