The leash police

Postby isaluteyou » Tue Jul 18, 2006 1:36 am

There should be a new beach patrol called the leash police  anybody not wearing a leash gets their board confiscated :P

I never noticed before how many people dont wear a leash as i always bodyboarded and the beachs are sectioned but since i started surfing i have had to dodge 3 boards(today) that are inches away from my face just because some dude isnt wearing a leash. Wave etique/rules what crap anybody not wearing a leash unless they have won a world title dont deserve to be in the water.

Sorry im really hacked off at this saw a small girl (even though she had no place to be on the surfers side) get wacked in the face. What was worse is the guy didnt apolagize.

I may be a newb to surfing but surfing without a leash is just plain dangerouse.

  Thats happened to me before on my bodyboard when i had a bad wipeout. i wouldnt dream of not wearing a leash im lazy and dont enjoy having to swim a couple 100 meters to collect my board if i wipeout. If the surf is big then if you lose your board you can get into difficulties many times ive seen the lifeguards dragging a half drowned rat out the water cause they lost their board. If you are alone or the beaches are pretty much empty then do what you like but if its crowded you are putting others at risk by not leashing.

My roommate only wears a leash if its overhead. Of course, he's been surfing for ages and i've only seen him lose his board a few times (and no one surfs where we do anyone).

I found not wearing a leash only jacks up my board more with it getting away from me. If you are longboarding just use a calf leash istead.
