I rode my friends 12 foot soft top at Santa Cruz last weekend. It's a great board because it's so easy. The only thing I don't like is that it's hard to have such a big board when the waves are so crowded. I've been thinking of going short board because I don't want to hit anyone with my board.

If your who I think you are, I've seen a few video clips of you riding a couple of those tankers. Those boards are insane. You by chance ever wear a bright red wet suit?

Never, but I do have some 'flamingo' and 'hotcoal' coloured suits

They aren't too bad for hollow logs I reckon :D

Here's the latest clip (first surf for 2 months, it shows) wired for speed with gps, a slowish day though, on an 11'9"

on a 17ft board you should be able to run up the nose, rather than walk it. And maybe a cartwheel or something.

hey! a cartwheel on a 30 mph log  that would be awesome

Three to four times overhead (often) on my 11'9", 12 footer and 13'9" , but the banks at my local have been stuffed for bigger waves since the Harbour Board dumped 3 cubic kilometres of sand out the back a couple of years ago, it seems to be getting a bit better though so hopefully some bigger waves coming up.

Ya know the funny thing Roy? The sheer number of people who think you can't ride a bigger board once it gets past overhead.

Maybe they never heard of the Hawaiian chieftains on the Olos?

I still get queer looks when I take my 9'6" out in overhead plus waves tho :)

Rock on man!

Yes exactly Doug, it's totally illogical, especially considering that big wave paddle in boards for mavericks and the like are usually over 10 feet long. .. . I have noticed that a lot of people don't consider those big wave guns to be longboards, because they are pointy thrusters. . . they think that a longboard is always a thing shaped like a mal !
I pity we can't see what the Hawaiian kings got up to in terms of wave size.

I'll do my best wishkid, and certainly when I am as rich as the quicksilver corporation you will see some changes ... . . . but right now I'm the designer, laminator, shaper, sander, driver, teamrider, reporter, wax pourer, surf school supervisor, creative accountant and promotional scumbag, with a moderately micro budget as well. . . . so patience is the permanent order of the day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. . . or so it seems.

OK wishkid, but we only brew mead, and our dirtweed is flavoured with fennel.
