Does such a beginner place exist?

Postby wannabee » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:15 am

Hi

Myself & my girlfriend are planning a European/ or similar distance holiday this summer. Neither have done any surfing at all. I am a keen windsurfer & sailor but my g/f is not a keen watersports person at all. However I'm really hoping this will change.

I've been looking at beginner venues for a holiday but many that I have seen are & understandbly surf safari's where the operators take you to the best olcation each day. However I was wondering if there are any locations that have got a hotel on a nice sunbathing beach with a surf school that will stay in one location. I understand it means we are not guaranteed a lesson everyday if conditions are not right but this is probably my best chance at persuading g/f to give it a try and if she doesn't like it will not wrtie off the holiday.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Phil

Why not try a short UK break?

Plenty of nice hotels near the surf in devon/cornwall, and there'll be plenty of surf schools on nice, beginner-friendly beaches :D

Bude, for instance, would be good - lots of places to stay (... that I drive past in me camper van... ), a nice beach for surfing and sunbathing, and its in a nice bit of the world for other holiday stuff if the girlfriend is not having it

Or, in europe, south-west france will have what you're looking for, and maybe portugal, but portugal might be a bit harder to locate the hotel/beginner surf/sunbathing combination 8)

beginner surf

Hi there!
There is alot of beginner places on the atlantic coast.
Girls also seems to be less afraid if there is sand instead of reef (i am a girl myself so I knew:-)
I have a surfhouse in Hossegor, France, 50meters from the beach.
We are having 80% beginners and 50% girls coming to stay with us and learning how to surf. I think you have the perfect plan for your girlfriend, it is important that she has fun and dont get afraid of the waves and the water.
Good luck!

Surf´s up;-)

for a great mellow beach break to learn at in Europe try checking out the Cote Basque beach in Biarritz. It has long forgiving waves and is ideal for longboarding.
