taking off

hi i just went out surfing in small surf. I have learned to stand up in the white water and this my second session trying to catch the green wave. Everytime i tried to take off with my board at an angle the board slid sideways down the wave and i ended up barrell rolling. Can someone help me

Sounds like you need to put a bit more weight on the rail facing the face of the wave???
