I don't know, I have the opposite problem, waves here are too big for me. Looked good when getting used to the water yesterday, but as soon as I took my board out, the waves just started coming in so big that there was no way for me to get past the breakers and the waves were coming very quickly too.
So when the waves are too big, I just walk along the beach and enjoy watchin the waves and some of the best surfers in the area.

If it is flat then I'll swim in the sea anyway, I actually love the sea when it's flat...take some goggles and swim underwater!

Repair boards.

Watch surf flicks.

Balance board.

Make fins (er... try to).

Make surfboards (er... try to).

Sit on the balcony and watch the ocean, drinking beer or wine (depends on the time of year) with friends...

PS. I don't wait for swell as I have the local swell window pretty much nailed down.

Read the 'Babe of the Day' thread again... :D

Hmm, some nice lists here; you've all given me some idea's of what to do when it's flat...

But yeah, I've always loved the sea either way, waves or not... particularly enjoy cliff jumping. I don't have the guts to do anything major yet, I do around 40ft, and that gives me an adrenaline rush as it is! The good thing about that is that there are some great spots for jumping close to home, as oposed to the long drive to any surf spots...
