Living on a houseboat?

Postby hicarbon » Mon Jul 10, 2006 11:36 pm

Was just curious if anyone currently lives abroad (Originally from the US or UK or another larger nation such as those and living overseas for whatever reason), and happens to live or has lived on a houseboat? I've been looking at the idea of going somewhere and thought if I bought a houseboat (Or rented one maybe), it might be cheaper than renting a house or something?

Just remember

Gas
Slip Fees
Dock Fees
Ropes
Repairs
Paint
Barancle Removal
Repairs
Gas
Anchor
Saftey Equipment
Repairs

and whole bunch of other stuff

Just remember, boat stands for Bust Out Another Thousand. It stands true

That being said, I have no idea which is cheaper. Just don't compare the price of a house boat directly to an apartment/condo/house/tent/whatever.

Understandable. I just think it'd be nice to have the option to move somewhere new whenever I wanted. And with a houseboat, you don't necessarily have to worry about slip and dock fees, you could probably anchor out somewhere close to land but in a public area (Like when vacationing down in Mexico, etc.). (and as far as an anchor goes, um, they normally come with one, so I mean, why would you worry about another? LoL)

Here in England they say owning a boat is like standing in a cold shower throwing £20 notes down the drain :?

I know you can live cheaply on a houseboat, but they are known to be damp and cold in the winter.

I still want to get one at some stage in my life :D
