New Guy!!

Postby Ellington » Thu Jul 06, 2006 12:47 am

Well I am new to the site and new to surfing. I just got back from Oceanside for vacation. This was only my second trip surfing. My first trip was to Mexico with my father in law and 2 brother in laws. I am really liking it. My father in law even gave me a board. It is a 10 ft Ellington. So that is what my screen name is. So I thought I would introduce myself and Hopefully I can learn some more tricks here!!

Yo Brothas!

How you doing? Kind new to this forum, been surfing since '67 and yes I am an old guy. Born and raised in L.A., lived in Ventura, Orange and now in San Diego County. Started on a Longboard and was riding long before my buds who bought Shortboards because Longboards were "old school." I was surfing while they were struggling to catch waves. If you were around in the late 60's you'll know that is when the Shortboard Revolution blossomed. It started early to mid 60's, but didn't really get popular until later. The Shortboard Revolution revitalized surfing as an industry and a lifestyle. I rode a Shortboard concsistently for 6 years in the late 70's-early 80's. But I'll always have a Longboard in my quiver. I've got one now that has a license from the City of Laguna Beach dated 1968. My current ride is a 10' single fin. My favorite breaks are San Onofre, Oceanside Harbor, Swami's, Pipes, San Elijo Creek, 15th St. Del Mar, Blacks, Tourmaline and Sunset Cliffs. I'd like to revisit Jalama, Rincon, California Street, Fairgrounds, Malibu, El Porto and The Creek. Unfortunately an extension of the Marina Del Rey jetty destroyed The Creek by completely blocking the swell that caused a nearly perfect left peeler that could be ridden for a half mile in the heart of L.A.'s beaches! The bastards! :x

Looking forward to reading your thoughts and ideas about surfing.

See you in the lineup!
