want to get my little sister out

Postby trails surfing » Tue Jul 04, 2006 5:04 pm

alright so what do you think of this. i was at the surf shop the other day and saw the 6' bic foam board, and i thought to my self that this would be great for my little sister, she's only 9 years old, and this board looks perfect for her in my mind. the great thing is that i could rent the board for the day and then buy it after. i'm only worried that if she does not have a good experience the first time that she'll never do it again. so i want to make sure that she will be on a large enough board that wont give her too much difficulty. should i go larger to something closer to 7' or should i stick with my first instinct?

i wouldn't know, but maybe you could ask at the local surf school, the surf schools here take kids out all the time. They must have a very good idea of how kids respond and what boards suit ... just a suggestion.

I gave my sister (12 years old) a 6'7" Bic board, and she's having trouble catching waves on it. Youd probably be better off getting something a bit bigger like a mini mal.

Definately go with a foam rental at first. Plenty of reasons for that.

And you better get her all primed and pumped at home and on shore first.

I hope she's a good swimmer :D Can she bodyboard/bodysurf?

Definately go soft then.

And focus on walking in (up to HER waist) and catching whitewater. NOT on popping up... Until she wants to.

Then on the sand or at home get that pop-up happening but stay in the whitewater.

Don't push her far out of her comfort zone.

Just my 2c.
