Bali

Postby felix » Fri Jun 30, 2006 10:01 am

I'm going to Bali from mid July - August 1. I was hoping to get a few recommendations regarding where to stay, how to get around the island (since I won't have my international license by the time I get there), where to rent boards from, and other useful information. I've read many of the posts about Bali so far but I thought I'd ask again. Since I'm going solo this time around, I thought I'd ask if anyone else is going there around mid-end July and is looking for someone to surf with (beginner - intermediate level).

Any information helps! Thanks. :)

I'm a beginner, but I can catch waves and stand up on my thrashed 7'8" mini-mal no problem. I'd like to carve a little more and try a shorter board, hopefully try out some bigger waves too.

I've never surfed a reef break before; besides the obvious risk of bailing and getting cut up are there any other risks? I've pretty much learned on the same board at the same tiny, overcrowded beach break in Taiwan so I haven't much experience in any other environments.

I'd also like to try kiteboarding - is that offered on Bali?

Not many risks with a reef accept for the sharp, poiseness coral below and a ton of water pummling you into it

Well, reef breaks are always steep waves, so it takes some getting used to! Also reef breaks are generally quicker waves and it's difficult to keep up with! One more point is, if you do make the wave and ride it out, you need reef boots or something to walk around the coral afterwards

Well, good luck!
