I bet if you really ask yourself what you're attracted to in terms of surfing.. you'll get a clearer idea of the kind of board you want.

Even you last post gives away a lot.

Yes longboards are expensive.

Do you like really aggresively jumpy surfing and enjoy moving around a lot on the wave? Do you enjoy watching that and want to surf like that?

Or do you enjoy the smoother longer rides? The powerful sweeping turns?

I don't know.. what appeals to you?

A board that is 7' something to 9' something sounds quite cool aye. Then you can learn and enjoy yourself on something more stable, yet are still able to turn it and have more manouverability on there.

what do you reckon Keith? :?:

Alright well I have a short board... It is about 6 1.

Since I am just learning i have found it hard to surf on that, I would like to learn on a long board then move into the short board I have that was given to me. I cannot spend to much considering the skim board my mom just bought me ($300) was broken by a loser friend... so she wont help me too much, heh.

So you bought the shortboard?

You won't be able to get a longboard for 300. They don't show up used too much either, or at least around here.

You might consider trading in the 6'1" for a 7'6" to 8'something mini-mal type board. That will help ease the cost.
I've been surfing for a few years now. I tried a 6'2" with a fuller template a couple of days ago and found it to be quite a challange.

Get something bigger now and save up for a smaller board. You'll have a few years to save up before you'll even need to consider something smaller.
