Rip Currents has anyone been in one?

How far are the oil platforms?? And was he blown out there or dragged in a rip??

I know how easy it is to panic if the sea about you is a churning mass of water, you're being sucked out and to paddle sideways takes you into the breaker zone..... :?

They are several miles out, not quite sure of the exact distance, but they are probably halfway to Catalina Island. I think it was a mix of being blown out and getting caught in an ocean current.
