Calling all Gower boys!

Hey! Now I've got your attention

Does anyone know how much it would be aprox to buy a static caravan in Gower.

Living in london I'm stuffed as far as regular surfing goes so I thought that maybe buying a caravan would be the way to go for regular weekend trips.

Whenever, I've been to Gower before I've surfed the llangennith beach where the tent site and big cafe is??? But recently I also surfed a cove a bit further down the road on the site of a big static caravan site??? They had sites and caravans for sale but I didn't take any details.

Any tips/ideas gratefully recieved.

I would think that a tent would work out a far cheaper option as some sites charge as much as £2500 a year in ground rents to own a pitch + if its a site that is well maintained then a caravan is guna cost yos a min of about £5000. some sites are a bit strict on bringing on your own static if its over a certain age.
These price are only a guesstimation (i used to work on a caravn site in pembs) but owning a caravn isnt a cheap hobby.
On the plus you could claw back some revenue by renting the van out over the summer holidays but to do this you would need a fairly tidy van which is gunna cost you big in the 1st place! :(

Sorry to post a twice but consider getting yourself a van (vw T4 or Vito) then youve got a mobile caravan so your not restricted to just 1 area.

A tents got me thinking, but can you pitch up outside of the summer season in Llangenith? Also could be a bit chilly in the winter! Need more info!

A mobile's a thought will look into it, cheers. Still overheads with that though ie insurance, repairs etc.

A static van still appeals though. £5K for a van seems reasonable, £2.5K for ground rent seems hard. Are these things easy enough to rent out during the summer? I guess I'd be mostly using it in the off season for surfing.

Anyway, I sent the Broughton Park an email for more details.

Are there statics parks near the Llangenith beach?

i guessed you where on about broughton, my favorute break on the gower is near there.
Check out the occupancy times tho, im pretty sure all the static vans here are on at most 10 month occupancy, that means you wont be able to use it in those winter months when the surf is big.

van van van van van van van van......

If you're in london you can head in so many different directions for surf. And you'll only be paying for it when you use it. Or repairing it of course if you get a veedub...

Ok, so what would I be looking at here cost wise, any suggestions for an affordable van, are there any online sites that sell them? and do you just park up anywhere or do you need to stay at designated campsites?

I ought to know all this as I once had a VW combi that I drove to Morrocco but that was back in the mid 80's!

Nothing much has changed in that sence, you can still park up anywhere (within reason and if your descreate)
I've not had any problems in or out of season, you get to know what to look for in areas to park up for the night.

Vechicle wise, most vans are the smae in terms of reliability (apart from fords which hanve always been xxxxx) so its more about the shape and size. Think about where you can go in terms of hight restrictions etc so HiTops may be a bit much as alot of coastal carparks have hight barriers on. If you have the time its well worth deckin out your own interiour as you can custom it for YOUR needs, always works out well becuase flat packs and pre converted vans are a nightmare when it comes to fitting boards and kit away.

Plenty of resources out there to tap in the internet in terms of advice, guides to conversion aspects etc.

I feel like such an American. I had to do a Goggle search to see what a static caravan was.
