It's funny how we all become accustomed to certain things. I remember hearing the Eminem song Stan.......and Pete Tong apologised for it being a bit controversial.....and then there was the whole backlash against Eminem!

Now little 8 year old kids are getting his CD's for their birthday's :?

my good friends younger brother has down syndrome and is unable to communicate very well. physically, he is just as athletic as anyone else. we forget that retarded usually means that just one aspect of someone is underdeveloped, yet we assume that a retarded person can never amount to anything.

I wonder if there are any retarded surfers?? (besides me that is) :D

I know I posted that poster as a bit of a joke, but here in England using the word retard or retarded is considered quite offensive :?

But it's good to hear that your friend's son isnt letting any disability get in his way :D

What I was trying to get across was, isnt it funny how words certain words are fine to use for years, but some politically correct dickhead decides it's not right anymore and turns the word into something offensive :?

All my life I've called myself half-cast, and I was telling someone I was 'half-cast'

She told me I shouldn't use that word because it's considered offensive.........I said 'Would you say it's as offensive as "go and f**k yourself?"

I used to work in a residential home for people with learning disabilities. Went on several courses and was told 'retard' is classed as an acceptable term - especially when there are 'language' differences (UK versus US terms and the like)

Who remembers Joey Deacon?

*wave hand around in that weird way, and stick tongue in front of bottom teeth but behind lip*

I use that hand-wavey thing in my van because it always makes me laugh rather than shouting "FLESHER!" which just gets me wound up. Ah, happy times.... :D

is it? i know it isnt here (in wales). I always thought it was a term used more by the yanks, over here its more of just a general insult, meaning your a bit dim (rather than implying a mental or physical handicap or anything). like a rem.
