surfing in a lifevest is gonna be pretty much impossible, and even just a buoyancy aid is gonna make it difficult. I think the tow-in nutters wear buoyancy aids similar to the ones used by waterskiers, but then they dont have to paddle out. Wearing a full wetsuit gives you quite a bit of buoyancy but really the best bit of safety equipment you have is the fact that your leg is tied to a big floaty thing (surfboard). Maybe look into getting a helmet too.

try some arm floaties suitable for ages 2-6.

but seriously, just go out when they aren't home.. I was surfing with mates at 13 before my accident.

you can get life jackets that arent inflated...like this type
Image

They only inflate if you pull on a cord, and are quite discrete but probably not very comfy to lie on as you are paddeling out.

I would say go without, because think about it you have a huge flotation device attached to you anyways (ie your board)

Im 14 and sometimes surf alone, but my mum dioesnt mind if theirs other people out their surfing, and i will surf completely on my own when it small.to be ohnist u would look like a prat with a life jacket, but if it gets you out surfing then do it.

i think it was different with me, becasue iv been surfing hardcore(whenever theirs surf) for about a year cas i surf with 16 year olds and we catch the buss, but if u can only surf when a parent watches u you must pic it up that quick.

the only real danger, is getting stuck in a rip, but if uv been surfin for 4 years u should be abel to handel that, and the time u could die id if your smaked on the head with a board and knocked unconsuis, but its not exactelly like everyone is going to let you drown, someone will come and save you.

Repent lest ye incur the wrath of the grammar nazis. Typing in english is a common courtesy, it means even people like me can understand your posts.

That and swimming lessons are the way forwards if you're not happy with your current abilities. Weak swimmers in the water are an unfortunate way of increasing 'statistics'. If, on the other hand, you are a competant swimmer and it's just a case of overvearing parents, you should try explaining to them how much being able to surf means to you. That and at 16 you're a big boy and should have at least some indepedence.
