Hi 111, welcome to Surfing Waves.

I'm still sort of not clear on after going back out from catching a wave will paddling back to where it is breaking and going deaper than everyone else if able to make the wave there mean it will be your wave if you catch one there?

This is called snaking and is bad form - although you see it loads. IMHO if you are doing this then you do not have priority on every wave.

When would it not be a clear cut who has the inside of the wave for it to be the first one to there feet has the wave?

On a crumbling wave that was unbroken and you were not sure whether it was going to break left or right.

What if no one is really taking turns and it's just a big group of people that are randomly going?

Stick to the general rules in this situation. This is when things get messy though

What if about 4 boogie boarders keep getting a wave from the peak and they get it to far out to ever be able to catch the wave,can you paddle in deaper than them to catch one and have it be your wave?

I know it's who's closest to the peak or if they caught it from farthest out but is it always taking turns to get to the peak or is it who can make the wave deapest in the peak sometimes to?

In an ideal world it should be taking turns but often it is who is deepest.

A lot of wave priority depends on where you are surfing. When everyone is behaving it works pretty well. The problem starts when people think it is their right to have every wave. I think the biggest problem where I surf is that you have lots of people who assume that it's ok to paddle straight to the peak and keep snaking - it just pisses eveyone off. The more busy the break the more frustrating it gets.

Somthing to add on this, Awareness of your surroundsing at all times is prime. I see far to many people switch off as soon as they turn to paddle. Not noticing that someone else has allready taken their drop.

If your sitting deaper than someone else but they are still paddleing, Even if your pretty sure they are too far out to catch it, bloody keep an eye on them to make sure they haven while your paddling... I've had so many waves screwd up cause people don't check.

youll find at places where the standard of surfing is higher and there is a pretty well defined take off spot then there will be more competiton for position and you will have to take off deeper to get any waves. This can be frustrating if your learning as you wont be able to take off as deep as the more experienced guys, i wouldnt consider that to be snaking tho.
attitudes vary from break to break, if theres plenty of waves to go around and I can see someone struggling to get a wave ill often let them take one which i would have had right of way on, i dont think theres anything big or clever about being a wave hog.

i often leave waves when im in prime position if theres somebody else paddling for it and ive just got back out to the lineup from my last wave just so im not taking every wave.
plus i need a bit of a rest sometimes

Can't be bothered with any of that rubbish. Surfing is supposed to be fun.

ttheres no reason why you shouldnt start paddling for a wave just because theres someone deeper, they may not catch the wave, but dont take off if they do catch it, also bear in mind by paddling you can cause a section to break down quicker and close out someone who is already riding, this is bad form and in competition can be penalised for interference.

dont worry about who takes off first, even if someone is on their feet before you on the shoulder its still your wave if your deeper and make the drop.

as far as coutersy and giving people waves, think about when your driving and you see someone waiting to pull out of a side street, legally its your right of way but sometimes you might flash to let someone pull out if theyre gonna be stuck waiting there for a long time, same sort of thing.
