this is odd...what do ya'll think?

Postby tomcat360 » Sat May 13, 2006 1:53 am

So I'm not much of an ebay'er but a friend just ordered a board from it and had success, so I thought I would look around.

I found an ebay store that's located where I surf. Prices seem reasonable and boards look nice. I am kinda loosely looking for a new board, but not really in a rush.

The issue is this: I have never heard of the companies that have done them, and a lot of the boards they sell do not even have a company listed. I know that name isn't everything, but it does make me feel better if I know who is making it, even if it's a small company that I can at least do some research on.

If ya'll would, could someone check out this site and see if it's legit? I emailed the guy and asked if they had a retail store in VaB because I'll be down there tommorow (that's right!!) surfing.

The 6'0" fish and the 6'6" fish seem nice, who knows, maybe I'll even try another thruster at these prices.

Thanks in advance

here's a link to a supplier..."Dolsey Designs"

http://www.dolsey.com/swim/index.htm

"EPOXY boards--great for rentals or beginners!"
"POLYESTER boards-- high performance

...that doesn't sound good (from my point of view)

anybody else thinking pop-out?

ok found out a bit more....

Everything is made by Dolsey--"hand shaped"

They are located in Norfolk, VA, so I guess I'm helping the local economy....if I do.

I'm still rather confused. They seem to be producing boards under different names for different boards. Like "Kane" for their retro boards, and "MJ" with something I can't read for their shortboards....seems fishy...

bit more.... (I know I could edit previous post, but I figured this way would be better...I don't know why)

So they have this:
http://www.boardshorts.com/epoxy.htm

the vast amount of boards worries me...I sent out another email asking about what they really are (popouts or not) , I really hope I didn't offend the guy.

"Kane" is actually a guy's last name, and what I thought was "MJ" was acutally "MD" for Michael Dosley Designs, which is another good sign. GT is also another guy's initals, so possibly these guys are actually the shapers, and not a machine.

Anyways, big day tommorow, I'm hitting the sack

epoxy is good for more than beginners that dummy. epoxy is good if you dont like dings in your board or pressure dents that suck in water. he should have said something like "seatbelts are for suckers"

that's my view on it. I was thinking he was chasing NSP's sale point by saying all that, so maybe the boards are the same construction method, although they do say hand shaped and the retro boards with 6/6 top and 6 bottom.

I'm suposed to call him today and meet up to look at some boards. we'll see then. Of course, the dummy I am, I bsically accused him of making popouts last night in an email....he might hate me now

I just read the seller's feedback and some buyer actually pointed it out that the board is made in China.

=======================================
Quick shipment with minor damage; board made in China.

I know that there are some good custom epoxy out there. But I'm not too sure about made in China though...
If you're not in a rush to get a board. Look around some more. I'm sure you'll find the best deal for a great board eventually.

ha...whatever, I think I'll take my business elsewhere

thanks for the help.

I'm not particuarly in a rush to buy one, plus in about a month I should have one coming out of the shaping bay, which is the board I really want, after that maybe I will look for a noserider, but probably will just make that if the first goes good.
