Travel buddies wanted - France, Spain, Portugal summertime..

Postby Surferpants » Mon Mar 20, 2006 6:27 pm

Hi all,

Im a 28 yr old surfer from Australia & want to do a van trip from London to Portugal, surfing all the way down the coast through France, Spain & Portugal sometime in summer.

Let me know if you need an extra person to filla space in your van, or if we can get a few people together & buy/hire a cheap van that would be cool too.

Cheers!

SurferPants

I'm doing the same trip this summer and autumn - taking 7 months off work to surf from start June to Christmas. I'm travelling down with my girlfiriend who also surfs (and is jacking in her job). Mid-life crisis related trip!

We've only got a two berth van so no spaces - but good luck with getting someone to team up with, it's the only way to go.

I've surfed around Cote d'Argent and Cote Basque before - Hossegor is seriously impressive when it goes off and surfing Biarritz Grand Plage is weird, grinding beachbreak right infront of the casino and promenading pensioners. I've only been a couple of times in Sept and Oct and was lucky with swells - but understand can get flat for long periods in summer. The Biarritz tourist site has links to a really good wave forecasting site for Atlantic coast of France.

Never been surfed Spain or Portugal but looks good in the guides.

Good luck with your trip - maybe see you in water

Cheers

Dude, I'd never really thought about it, but it sounds mental! I'd be up for that in a couple of months time! Obviously we'd wanna meet all our potential travelling partners first to make sure they're not psycho's! :D

Why a van thought? How about a 4x4 and some tents? Or a people carrier and some tents and stuff? Can carry more people & stuff that way!

How long a trip were you looking at anyway?

Link to Altantic swell forecast site I mentioned above - click on wave map it gives a dynamic 5 day swell forecast - experience suggests it is pretty accurate - certainly for SW France

Why don't you guys travel that little bit further and cross the Straight to Morocco. It's relatively cheap on the ferry and the swell in Morocco is superb!

I will be living there as from the end of April so let me know if you wanna come and visit. wootzy@hotmail.com

I'm in the process of getting my life organised, I'm hopefully joining London Fire service in August, and should have the selecting finished in june time, so I'm well up for it. I'll need to be back in time to start my LFEPA training though, date tba.

If you're still up for it (if you still read this forum) give me a shout a bit closer to the time either by email or MSN Messenger. (Abaddon001@Yahoo.com)

I've got a full EU licence and I'll be happy to organise a vehicle and stuff. I'll be looking at early july to mid august (roughly).

In the mean time I will be doing research on the subject...!

Hi all!!!
I'm always thinking in doing the same, but unfortunately I can't do for one entire month, as I want to save some holidays to surf in brazil in january (summer there), when i go back for 3 weeks I think.
Im thinking one week or 2 (i'll try) in june probably.
I live in reading, Im still in doubt if I do all the way from here in a van, or to rent a car or van in portugal and go all the way back to france (portugal, spain and france coast) surfing, and partying as well :P

If someone else is interested, send me an email to echofloripa at gmail dot com...
By the way, how long would it take???
What about we start to enumerate the best spots in these three countries...?

Give me a shout when you plan to come through the North of Portugal, would love to try and catch up for a few... An Aussie licence is classed as an International License so all should be fine in that department; you do need to get to the RTA to get some print out to go with it though.

I'm English no Oz! :) I'm actually well up for this. I'm already looking into a 4x4, got a couple of potential travelling partners from here.

If we swing through north Portugal, we'll look you up dude.
