Damn these wetsuits

Postby farside » Sat May 06, 2006 11:29 am

Guys
I do not know how you cold water folk do the wetsuit thing on a regular basis.

I live in sunny Queensland, Australia and its heading into winter time.
Chilly this morning so out comes the 3mm spring suit (all we ever need in these parts) and off I go....

Man.... all of a sudden you feel like your 10 kgs heavier, once fluid paddling is now stiff and sluggish, you cant make a minor adjustment to your position on the board as you paddle into a wave cause the suit sticks like sh*t to a blanket on the deck of the board.

My hat is off to you all...please bring back summer and my fav rashie.

ha ha, I remember that...Doesn't last too long though, then y'ull be in your rashie.

Well, it's about choices...do you love surfing enough to paddle into large waves in a michelen costume? (I certainly do!)

you should come surf here in january, 5mm suit, boots, gloves and a hoodie. makes you look like some kind of fetishist. Paddling gets more tiring, and i find the hoodie affects my balance badly, but its better than getting hypothermia and its better than not surfing at the time of year when the waves are biggest!

I have a 4mm for it's now spring here, the water is still pretty cold. I love wetsuits, it makes me feel like a superhero haha. It's like getting a full body hug all over while wearing them.

Come winter, i'll be getting a dry suit for a 5mm doesnt' cut it in ICE.

they suck... been 8 months and i just can't get use to it. The most annoying thing is the tight feeling on your nuts but without them it would really put a spanner in the works. I can't wait for it to warm up enough to get back into my 3x2 or better yet shorts

if you live in da cold then you get used to it and its weits when you take of your boots and gloves, thats aboyut as much as we take of in the uk, its far to cold for board shorts, unles its like a 20 min surf.

 I am imagining the cags of a dog.... I suppose it would be similar to a "cut lunch" ... when its cold enough for a wetty there is no way my "jatz crakers" will be hanging that low
