Well I finally finished up the paperwork for my teaching certificate. I still have to wait for the results from my assessment, but within a few short months I will be teaching classes of my own.

Depends on the area of specialization. Where I live, elementary school teachers (K-6) are plentiful, but high school (7-12) teachers are more in demand especially in math (my field) and science.

So you did a year at some kind of teachers college? after your maths degree?

Let me guess.. it really sucked right?

I mean, apart from those things that you find really inspiring...ok no no.. let's keep it honest... It really did suck didn't it?

laughing knowingly...

Yea. Same situation here. Primary teachers are common as muck, my area, I teach Year 7/8 (grade 6/7??) and Secondary teachers run away and get a life, after all who the hell would want to teach horny deamon spawn. haa haa... ok I was kidding.. a little bit.

That's pretty much the common perspective though. I taught two years at a High School here and loved it totally. I was still teaching Year 7/8, it was an area school kind of.

So have you a job lined up or are you still deciding where to teach on WANNASURF.ORG? :D

Hey I can't really contribute to the teaching conversation at all, but as this post is for procrastinating I wanna add my 2cents.

I WANT TO SURF! I don't have a single thing to be getting on with, except I can't get a babysitter or any friends to take childcare shifts on the beach today and so I can't go in the water. Despite the fact its bank holiday, it's sunny, i live next to the beach, and i have nothing better to do. Grrrr, I'm so jealous of you child free people. Still, I found out about some surf classes for 2 year olds so next summer..... !

Image

I hope! Sorry about the moan. I do have all of tommorow free to spend surfing, so I know I should shut up and count my blessings.... but grrrr.

Actually, I don't have a degree in math, my college degree was in journalism, but they don't have a credential for that, so I had to take 3 tests (Algebra, Geometry, & Calculus) in order to be able to teach math. The teaching courses weren't that bad, it was the fieldwork and paperwork associated with the credential that were a pain in the rear.
As for where to work, I am planning to stay where I am and teach somewhere around home for about 5 years (surfing is fine year-round in Southern Ca, about 10 miles from the beach, but traffic is a pain), then move to Hawaii to teach.
