Longboarding Movie

Postby borneng » Fri Apr 14, 2006 10:18 am

Just finished watching Way of Life and am totally mesmerized by the beauty and elegance of longboard surfing. I've been thinking about going down this road for sometime and having watched this movie I am now certain that this is the route I will be heading. (btw, does anyone know what's the song on "Santa Cruz Loggin" chapter ? I know it's Kristi Jo who sings it but I can't find the title of it)

I still have some improving and progressing to do on surfing basics as I only started surfing last year May. But I am replacing my leaner board (NSP) to McTavish Eightball . So in the mean time I would really appreciate if anyone can recommend me other Longboarding movie to watch :D (I'm already trying to get hold of Singlefin:Yellow and The Seedling).

Thanks RJD. I've watched Endless Summer I before (it was cool indeed) and will look into ES II. I never thought that Big Wednesday is also a Longboard specific film. Will definitely look into that as well. :D

HANG: The Manifest Destiny Of The Longboard Cult

An Ira Opper film.

Amongst many, many others. A good starting point.

I'd definitely recommend Singlefin:Yellow. Fantastic movie documenting one longboard passing from shaper to friends around the globe. For me it captured exactly the attitude that everyone should have when longboarding - fun! It's in essence just a bunch of people enjoying one board.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. My "to watch" list is getting longer now

1. Singlefin:Yellow
2. Hang
3. The Seedling
5. Wordz
4. Endless Summer II
5. Big Wednesday
6. Lines from a Poem
7. Adrift

The only problem, they are not cheap so I have to be patient and get one at the time each month or I'll end up broke. It would be great if there's a rental that specialise in this kind of dvds. Is there such thing ?

If you have a large download limit, there are a few good programs that could make it cheeper; but I wouldn´t know much about them  .

You gave me an idea  I'm heading to Amsterdam tomorrow for few days and I will ask my cousin there (whose got an unlimited download limit) if she and her husband knows anything about it.

But I would also be grateful if you could direct me to the person who knows more about this program.

Must be something out there in English, if you can't make head and tails of Portuguese... or this site might help http://www.freetranslation.com... It is a peer to peer program, use it at your own discretion. I would say (but don't know) such things as movies in *.avi format (around the 700MB range to fit a CD) would take a few days to download and would most probably be illegal; nothing beats the original on DVD so think about it

Thanks for the link and info. I shall ask my cousin's husband to look into this programme (he's an IT guy).

True, and I would probably still buy the original DVDs. But then at least I can get to see it first before deciding into purchasing it :D

Exactly, I first sore a doggy copy of Single fin: Yellow at a mates place and decided to get the real thing as it is a great movie... I think that I sore WordZ bundled with other movies some where on the net... There is another that I really want to see but will have to check the name out in an "Australian Longboarding" mag when I go home for you called something like "Triology of Style"... My mother tried to get it sent to me for christmas but no one would ship it directly out of Australia... so hopefully she can get her hands on it to bring later this year.

Thanks a million, that would be fantastic.
Just spoke to my cousin and forwarded the link you gave me. I noticed that e-mule site is actually on multiple languages (just need to click on the flags above on the site) so it's pretty handy. :D Really appreciate the info and my cousin can easily read it as it also has Dutch language option.

I am trying to get hold/watch the ones on the list above :)

As I said in the beginning of this thread; even after seeing 'Way if Life' I am convinced to go down this road. But I am pretty sure I will be even more convinced after seeing all the other movies.

 Yes, well thanks mate... I struggled reading it all and setting it up in Portuguese, suppose it was good practice.

Just finished watching 'fin' whcih I bought today. Its not bad, bit short though. I liked the whole them of "Its not about what you ride on, its how you ride it!". There was some good surfing footage, a lot on longboarding, but I have seen better. Think i'd give this 6/10

Precisely! :)

This is the reason why it would be great if I could watch the movie before buying it. I mean; €30 is pretty expensive for a "not-bad" DVD.
