Scars

Postby SDCali » Tue Apr 04, 2006 9:23 pm

Last August I was out swimming and got a nasty cut on some coral. Still have a nice scar on my foot.
Has anyone tried any of that stuff that says it will help get rid of scars? Does it work or is it just another way to get me to shell out money for a product?
Thanks.

You can - to a certain extent, anyway - prevent a scar before it forms, but once you got them, aint nothing but time will make 'em fade (well, that or surgery). Buying some expensive cream wont make the slightest difference to the tough tissue that it is a scar :?

I got a major friction burn on my arm after an accident with an electric sander in a CDT class at school, near on ten years ago. Got taken to hospital, they put some ''special'' gel patch on it and pretty much guaranteed that it would either not leave a scar at all, or leave a very minimal mark. Theres a pink scar there now, about 2 inches long and half an inch wide. If you run a finger over it lightly, you can feel where the scar begins and ends, and if I get very very cold, it shrivels up and goes purple. It pretty much disappears during the summer, either cos of the heat or cos I tan. It hasnt faded over time - its still as pink as it was after the scabs came off (although I've spent a huge amount of time on the beach the past couple of weeks, and the tan is starting to appear so it is getting lighter).

It used to stand out big time, but I got a tattoo on my wrist a few years ago and thats the first thing people see, so get virtually no comments on the scar anymore lol

So no, I dont believe in any of this sh*t that claims to get rid of scars whilst theyre healing, let alone after theyve healed.

I have a scar on my forhead (between the eyes) from being pushed through a glass window when I was small.

I can't imagine NOT having it. It's just a part of me.

Accept your scars man.

This scar is just really funky colored. BTW I am not a guy, and I like to wear sandles/flip-flops/slippers. I hate wearing tennis shoes, so I wanted to try to at least even out the color of the scar.

First scar was three years old. Lost all the skin on the inside of my left arm - wrist to shoulder.

It's sort of been a growing collection ever since ;D

Numerous 'accident' scars like drilling a piece of metal in metalwork class (only girl who would go near the drill 8) ) and the metal cracked slicing my wrist open. It wasnt deep but long and thin. Cant really see it now only when i get cold and it goes purple - looks a bit dodgy sometimes
Got numerous scars on my knees - like accidentally falling on a nail poking out of a bit of wood, one knee is pinker than the other cos i took a massive gash out of my knee when i was little and basically the scar is my entire knee cap... :P good times good times

i had a big heart op when i was young and i have a scar that goes down half of my back. i am now 16 and it has faded quite a bit but you can still see it quite easily. i don't think they do fade that easily, wish mine would! :(

i have one just above my big toe, started out as a small cut, but the surf was so good i couldnt stay out of the water to let it heal so it took weeks to heal properly now every time i go out and knee paddle or slightly knock it, it opens up agian

I did the same with a windsurfer fin. But I did get carried out of the water by a hunky instructor :D (BTW people get confured by the name, I'm a girl)
DBB is right

Vitamin E cream is really good, I can vouch from experience. BodyShop or anwhere like that tend to do a good strong one. But for guys, its true, chick dig scars.
