Living in hawaii this summer

I'm going to hawaii from the end of june, to end of july. Looking for the cheapest surfer bum place to live.

Things I have in mind:

-Renting a cheap ass appartement from some students who're out of town for the summer.

-Buying (or borrowing) a shitty but large car, parking it on diamond head camping/similar and selling it when I go home.

-Living in a tent, in som guys garden. Paying a little $ for it.

-some cheap motel / bungalow etc.

You guys have some hot tips here? Help me out
What should I expect to pay, and where is it cheap to live? I dont mind if its a shithole. I can have loads of fun everywhere!

you wont have any trouble finding a shithole apartment here, but expect to pay 500+ a month for it. i suppose you could camp at some of the beaches with the crack heads and bums where its illegal in town... elsewhere youll have to have a car to get to the breaks. usually students rent dorms and lose their places after the year. buying a car sounds ok but dont park it on daimond head theyll ticket you at night, i was on the beach with my ex and got a $40 ticket.
