goofy surf trip

gotta a 4 day trip to newquay in june....just me and mate,wehey,(when u r 38 with wife and 2 kids you,d know what i mean)anyway,surf fistral and polzeath every year an im lookin for different breaks prefarably to suit a goofy longboarder of an intermeadiate++ standard.
we plan on up early,good days surfin any where within an hour/half then back for world cup..and plenty of beers..

For somthign a little more fun and chalangeing than fistral gayness then head to the north of Perrenporth (towards ligger Point) Its jsut down the road form Spewquay so not too much travel time plus way less crowds cuase they all too lazy to walk the dunes.

It's funny, and a bit sad, that the self-styled "centre of british surfing" is so awful

Been there, done the newbie thing of going to NQ, learnt to surf, realised that its best not to be quite so hungover if you want a good surf, never been back to newquay

You can pick it up for about £5 secondhand online. Its not the only one, I'm sure there are others but I've got this one. Its not got all the breaks in it, but its pretty good and it helps you out with what breaks work with what wind direction.

i was gonna try saunton/croyde and lynmouth(believe it needs big swells)wot do u think?

Its two bays south of Fistral, can see it on anymap. --> Map!

Don't bother with Lynmouth its fickle at best and yes needs a huge swell which you wont see to next Autaum now. Plus its all boulder reef, and a little locally protective.
If you decide to hit North Devon instead then Saunton or Woolacombe main beach is the best bet for sure. (Putts if its blown out) Croyde unfortuantly suffers from major crowding problems now-a-days At least and Saunt/Woola you can spread along the 3miles+ of beach.

As bertie says a UK surf guide is great to get to on the right lines for all the main spots. The one listed below has a few contriversially listed breaks but the "Storm Rider" Guides are prety much the best about in full colour and a good read in its own right! Got some good info on forecastign, reading waves etc for beginers.

Yep - can vouch for Woolacombe big time... been there 3 years on the trot for the cornwall pilgramige...

Plenty of room and lots of friendly locals......

Unpleasant hills though

The last time I went there, someone had hit the 'not suitable for heavy vehicles, this is a fleshin' steep hill' sign from the hill on the road which goes south out of woolie, and "straight" to Puts. The van felt like it was gonna explode at 1mph, and if we'd had to stop there was no way we'd ever have gone forward again

hahah you tried to take the bridal path from the end of Marine Drive? lol Its not a road anymore the NT use it for access only.

Use the Gorgeham road instead :p
