Scraped knuckles... why?

Postby drowningbitbybit » Tue Apr 11, 2006 11:40 am

This one has been bothering me for ages...

Every time I go surfing, I end up with scrapes just below my fingernails and above the first knuckle... :?

I thought it might be my gloves rubbing - but, no, happens in summer too.
Or maybe waxing the board, but, no, not that.

Maybe Im a caveman and rest my knuckles on my board as I surf? Possibly, but Im sure someone would have mentioned it.

So, answers on a postcard (or better still, on this thread) - What does Drownin' do to his fingers every time he surfs?

I usually end up scraping mine up on the bottom after surfing. Just screwing around relaxing I kinda pull myself along the bottom with my hands and body surf.(let out the inner kid  )

That's a pretty stupid answer, but I don't think that resting your hands on your board would scrape them up. :?

I don't really have a clue, but it could be because your skin is thin and dry just there. After a few hours in the water, the skin might burst.

Just a thought. I'm sure some girl could give you a better answer.

I get very dry skin on my fingers after being in the water - especially around my knuckles and on the 'insides' of my fingers...Get big patches that look like empty blisters, which eventually peel apart (and go sore if I pick at them) like this

Image

Nothing that a good dose of Palmers Cocoa Butter lotion doesnt fix - gets rid of it in about a week.

well if ur gettin the same as that pick it just means that you have sensative skin. some people suffer from it, try puttin some moisturiser on before u go in, sounds girly but it should work.

My girlfriend says: "Apply Eight Hour Cream for hands from Elisabeth Arden everyday, and the problem is solved"

What ever that is.

oh... I get the little pocket thingys(actually got them on 6 fingers and 3 toes right now). Some of my fishing buddies say that if you're hands keep getting dry and wet over and over then they get screwed up. They say to use cream before you go.

scrapes!

Postby thaya » Thu Apr 13, 2006 5:11 pm

I get the same thing but I know how I get mine! I manage to scrape and cut my fingers at the same point by putting on my wetsuit! Is it just me? Anyone else cut themselves with all that pulling and tugging?!!!

D

I reckon it's the bare knuckle pushups you do on the broken glass as a warm up!

It's your own fault for being hard as nails!!

Oslo - all plans are on hold cos I lost my job!!

That's why I haven't been about for ages.

Might make slightly more regular appearances again now, but my new job is pretty hectic!!
