Hak surfboards keep cropping up these days. Although they are made from foam and glass fibre they are not custom surfboards by definition as they are mass produced to a design rather than to a specific riders requirements or for a specific wave for example.
I've seen a couple down the beach and they look ok but i've never surfed one. These boards will be machine shaped and then final sanding done by hand, they are then glassed up in the quicksilver factory.
Personally i know exactly how much it costs to make a surfboard and the price of £250 including all the bits is a very cheap price and he is totally undercutting the surfboard market. For this chap to make money he'll need to sell lots or have another source of income.
I think people selling boards this cheap could have an adverse effect on our custom surfboard industry here in the uk if large numbers of people buy these boards as the local shapers who shape the really good boards will not be able to compete with that price!
At the end of the day you get what you pay for allways. If you're an occasional surfer who just wants a good looking board then go for it. But if you want a really good board then get a proper custom board from a local shaper.

thanks mate. I'd never heard of Hak before and wanted some advice. I'd be interested to hear from anyone that's surfed on one.

I checked out the whole range and they only seem to sell huge boards - typically aimed at beginners, maybe cos they're shite? Dunno really but I'd not rush in just cos they're cheap.

I had a HAK board for 2 years and it never went wrong, and after i learnt to surf on it it just kept on getting better, i didnt have to change to a different board,it was a good board , i would recomend them.

Well its all relative really but, yes cos very often board ranges go down to 5'10"-ish, my longest board is a 6'5" and I don't use it very often cos its for bigger waves. My everyday board is a 6'0", so if the 6'10" was along the same lines as my other boards it would be a gun/semi-gun!

But from a longboarders point of view 6'10" is tiny .

'Never went wrong' , so the electrics didn't let you down and it always started first go! - sorry, no offence, just sounded funny!
But seriously, sounds like the board suited you very well, as a beginner, as I suspected .
