Why would you have a problem with surfer chicks?

I surf all the way through the winter in Wales and Cornwall and I'm usually the only girl out there. Mostly I don't have any problems, its not at all crowded, the guys just respect the fact that there is snow on the ground and I'm still out there. But when its warmer and there are more people, I do find guys will drop in on me much more than on the guys I'm with.
Also when I haven't had my board and have had to rent one the guys in the shop always try and get me to rent a foamie, I just think its funny.

oh man i hate girls who are only in it for the look, there are so many around where i live, i know one girl who bought a board, stands on the beach posing in her bikini when its about 7 degrees and doesnt actually go in the water.....she has never actually been surfing and doesnt want to ruin the gloss finish on her board by waxing it....

fair enough if guys hate that behaviour but that goes for both genders, most girls hate it, and i bet if a guy does the same poser thing then everyone gets annoyed as well

never had any trouble in the water from guys but sometimes i feel i have a bit more to prove in the waves

I dont think thats got anything to do with being male or female.
Everyone out there has to prove they're good enough to be in the line-up, everyone gets dropped in on sometimes, and everyone sometimes worries about whether they're getting agro from locals or whoever, and everyone has those days where they're sure everyone is looking at them thinking they're a twat.

Basically, everyone does it.

But, the thing is, I couldnt care less who Im out there with - Im not worrying about who's best/worst/boyest/girlest. Im just waiting for my wave - and Im not looking at everyone else, because Im concentrating on my wave. The only way you'll attract my attention is by surfing like a god, or surfing like a twat that drops in on my wave.

I might look at the girl surfing in the bikini, but no more than I would on the beach, car park, campsite

So my message is this (to everyone, not just the girls) - stop being paranoid, everyone is too busy surfing to care about you. Surf like a god, then people will look at you

thats true cuz if ya get a board and stand on the beach, your not a surfer, they at least have to be into it cuz if there is one thing i hate its posuers..so they gotta be into it...

:D

There is one thing that always always completely grabs my attention in the best way possible.

The hugest greatest idiot grin that says FLESH THIS ROCKS!!

Yea that's the hottest thing out there. Even if Big Bruce Irons The Hottest Man In The World were out there and he forgot to decorate his being with a gigantically stunning smile... I wouldn't be warmed up at all.

So fellas:

DON'T WORRY EAT CURRY!

Same as everything in life ..if you in it for the real reasons ..not " right " reason as everyone has their own right and wrong ..but real interest in a sport then usually it doesnt matter if your a dude or dudette ... best sport ever is to watch mixed kickboxing ..damn its good watching a fit, pretty girly girl kick the flesh' outta some thug who thinks he is a dominant ape

Dudette surfers ?! ..no problem here :D ...beach posers ?! ..no problem here as long as they dont get in my way on the run to the bar

I definatly noticed more girls surfin in the last few years here, and the ones that do tend to be pretty hardcore, so although theres a lot more blokes out there than girls in the summer, come winter when the summer surfers are tucked up at home with their hot cocoa, the ratio of male/female seems to be much closer.
This is just at the more casual friendly breaks tho, i hardly ever see girls at the more aggro/busy/locals only spots, so i assume there must be a bit of hassling going on when they surf the more "high standard" places.

Nobody has ever intimated that because I'm a girl I shouldn't be surfing.
I have never ever come across anyone with an attitude like that.

Was this thread trying to be provocative? I can't really believe that anyone would have a problem, and nobody here has shared any bad experiences. It all seems really good :D

hmmmm. my first experience of gender discrimination in the water was last weekend.

And I was so adamant that this didn't exist. A group of bloody emmits called out to me in the most patronising tone - 'you've got to get your hair wet, love'.

I'd just paddled out, was well annoyed. I pretended they'd been nice, but ignored them and just got on with my surf. They were kooks anyway (slightly more so than me...)

It's hardly a big deal, but it irritated me.

You girls don't know how lucky you have it.

When my wife first started surfing (before we met) she go just about everything except encouragement.

Ranged from smirks to laughter to being ordered to go in.

The one advantage being she never got the physical hassles the male "kooks" got.

Actually, I find this an interesting and provocative topic. But I don't think it's a troll, so it's all good!
