How long do you stay out?

Postby surfinforlife » Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:58 am

How long does everyone stay in the water when they go for a surfing session?? If the waves are good i can only generally manage about 2-3 hours before I am buggered. If its crappo, even shorter. I'm just wondering if Im being a sissy, or if im just really unfit!!!

I managed 30 min last night, cold and getting dark early here now, plus I'm mega unfit due to some mystery virus hit me mid week.

Couple of hours usualy tho as I'm not the fittest person anyhow, and the beach is just yards away...

ive done from like 7:30 to 3:00 spend an hour out and then back in till 7:00 pm

actually I do that a lot, whenever I have the chance. a lot of the time its more like waiting for a random swell while paddling around.

Generally I do about 3h sessions (constant breaks, no waiting...), but I have done a couple of 5h sessions as well, but then I'm not really physically able to do anything after that but have a beer and watch a movie ;)

At the end of a long day, when I realise I havent the energy to pop up and Im sort of crawling up instead, then I know its time for a well earned beer :D

2-3 hours Normally

But my longest ever was in the water by 08:30 , out at 13:00 ran home, ate something and went straight back (break took 30 - 45 mins max) and got out
at 18:30 that evening.

Needless to say, I hibernated after that ;)

0900 - 1600 with an hour break at about 1400 ish

during the winter, however, its more like 3 or 4 hours max... then I get too cold to have much more fun!

I surf @ bondi, so generally i do dawn patrol until like 11am, which is all i can stand (not fitness wise, just tourist wise).

Once the body boarders start crawling out of bed i usually pack it in for the day.

honestly, I dont believe some of these lengths of session. unless the waves are really small or unless you only get out like 2 times a week.

Why?? The waves I get are usually anywhere between 2 and 4 foot and i go surfing twice a week...its too far away to go before or after work, unless im really keen.

If the waves are perfect and the breaks are quiet then i can manage about 3 hours, have some lunch then head out for another 2 or so, then im stuffed. Im not surfing the whole time though, there is a lot of sitting on the board waiting for the perfect set.

Small waves can be an even bigger killer on the arms - paddle for a wave, ride, throwaway manouvre at the end, paddle back out, immediately catch another one... repeat... all afternoon....

Dude, 4-6 hours!!! Don't you have any obligations during the day?? YOu cant be doing that more than once a week. Definitely not 2 days in a row.
