Once again I'll say.....
Get a normal key cut for the door lock only for the sake of a few quid and only being able to open one door at a time the surly you can lock the ignition key int he car withthe rest of your stuff. Far safer than leaving out the real key somwhere....

Doesn't work on all cars though - with my car you have to have the remote to unlock, de-immobilize and to reset the alarm. If you only use the key, it sets the alarm system off (it doesn't sound like its supposed to, but that is actually the way its been designed).
Thats one of the reasons why I got a little old banger to use as a beach car. I always tie my hair back when im in the water and the key is on the hairband
