surfing problems

I just wondering what are all your problems to do with surfing not as in troubles with actually surfing a wave or your style but problems you have with surfing equipment or anything like that.

Mainly some major problems.

key pockets are always badley designed , from the ones on leg ropes to the dismal pockets in wetsuits .......

Key pockets are definitly a problem for me, they should be water proof for one... And I'm also struggling with the neck rash thing, because I don't have a second skin...

Dunno if theres something like this already, but i would also like to see some sort of chemical that removes your old old wax off your board, but obviously doesn't damage the board itself - Just to give her a treatment every now and then you know..

Neck Rash...I assume is from you're wet suit. You need to get a better quality wet suit that doesn't have bare stitches running up the neck. Or, get a rash guard with a long neck. You can try pulling the neck as tight as possible; that will help reduce the amount/severity of the rash.

Key pockets...the one on my O'Neill Epic 3/2 works just fine for me.
As for my 5/4 (zipperless/hooded), I attach my key to one of those sport key bands.

I wear it around my neck and drop the key end down my back.

An old (or new):p shoelace does the job for a round the neck key holder, perfect length if run through tteh key loop twice and it sits just below the neck but above the brestbone so it doesn't press when your lying on your board.
Cheap too...

As for my encounters with equeptment probs I'd have to say without modifications Fins are the worst for rubbing and cramps etc. I've yet to find a perfect fit :( SO I'm always having to wear booties summer too.
That and suit manufacturers seem to think that everyone over 6ft is fat. Its a nightmare finding suits to fit me and I couldn't afford another custom so ended up having to get a Small elsasto last year for winter. IT was the onely one that didn't bag on the chest, but still pools in the nape of my lower back :(

key pocket is the killer for me - my car can only be opened by an electrical key thing, so when i go surfing i have to take someone who likes sun tanning to just mind my xxxxx, or i go to non-popular beaches and just risk leaving it on the beach.

The key pockets that come in wetsuits and leashes are rubbish, I use this waterproof packet I bought cheap at a camping store. It works amazing, can fit any size key in there, phone, wallet... I just wear it around my neck and under my rashvest.

Once again I'll say.....
Get a normal key cut for the door lock only for the sake of a few quid and only being able to open one door at a time the surly you can lock the ignition key int he car withthe rest of your stuff. Far safer than leaving out the real key somwhere....

Doesn't work on all cars though - with my car you have to have the remote to unlock, de-immobilize and to reset the alarm. If you only use the key, it sets the alarm system off (it doesn't sound like its supposed to, but that is actually the way its been designed).

Thats one of the reasons why I got a little old banger to use as a beach car. I always tie my hair back when im in the water and the key is on the hairband

My car is like that. However, if I don't use the remote to lock the car (just use the lock button inside the door, or manually lock all the doors) the alarm is not activated, and I can just use the key to unlock the car with no alarm problems.

or bring two ziplock bags and a shovel, and dig down in the sand dunes and bury it.

or do what I do, don't drive to the beach, because you can't.

ok so maybe the last one is a bad solution to a small problem.

hmmm...anyone ever think of putting a key in a block of wax?

oh yeah, they don't have wetsuits with snack holders, but they have board shorts with beer holsters now!

I use the non-electronic key method. I still need the proper key to drive the car, but a blank locks the car and set the alarm. The real key is secreted in the (locked and alarmed) car.

It does mean I set off the alarm every time I come back from surfing - but as I'm in a wet wetsuit and carrying a board nobody really raises an eyebrow.

I've seen those waterproof pouches - but it seems a bit of a risk - get any water in your key and you're in deep doo especially if you're a long way from home. Also talking 100 notes or more for a replacment.
