Loosening Fins

Postby Laguna » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:03 pm

Hey, I was wondering, if I loosen my fins on my funboard will I get better turns? Kinda like loosening trucks on a skateboard. Was just wondering if people do this because im sure it is right.

id have thought your fins would fall out cos theyre not in the boxes properly.

take the middle fin out? that would make it 'looser' on the wave id have thought :D

I dont really know much about fins, which is why I am asking all these questions, I heard somewhere along the way of someone loosening fins a little, so i just thought what that was. Anyway , what fins does everyone here use? I wouldnt mind testing different fins,

If your fins move backwards and forwards within the fin box then you can experiment a bit.
To loosen the board up (make the board turn easier) just move the fins forwards or just the back fin forwards and the front fins backwards so they are all closer together.
If you move all the fins to the back it will be better for bigger waves and less loose. Also if you move fins as far apart as possible - same sort of effect.

With all the above fin placements you should screw the fins in tightly.

Obviously if your fins don't have any room to slide in the box then keep them done up tight! Its deffo NOT the same as skating!

Deffinately keep the screws tight on the fins.

They do make fins that flex more, but I can't remember what effect it has.

I'm not sure if I'm thinking straight on this or not (maybe someone else can chime in if I'm wrong, or elaborate more)
A fin with a smaller base and less rake will be a lot looser.
