Should I try Pipeline???

i still dont see why i wouldnt be considered a local.. the north shore is a 40 min drive out of town. its nothing.

Now, I dont want to get into the argument, and I dont want to offend anyone...

Being a local isnt just about living close to the break. Its about surfing that break day in, day out. Knowing it intimately - when it'll work, when it wont, when to take off, when to sit out the set.
It's about paddling out back and knowing the people in the line-up, and being known.

It's not about proximity.

One last thing - I dont consider myself a local of anywhere (although there's a couple of breaks where Im known, and am considered 'honorary' local by a lot of the crew). I travel around, surf new breaks, return to old favourites, go where the swell is. I prefer it that way

i agree i meant local to hawaii in general. im a regulatr to 3 places, and i only remember about 5 other faces at each break. youre also just talking about a single break. my favorite place is diamondhead and there are 3 with regulars to each separate one. i go to the same one every time and people usually dont move around.

baldie i usually go to daimondhead cliffs for outh swells or kaisers when its real big. if its flat i go to makapuu (after 5pm since surfing is illegal) or to irmas which is a bit hidden, its past sandy beach on the same shoreline. ive been surfing since i got a car, 3 years ago. which break so you surf at DH and what time?
look for a blonde kid with that ugly board from the other post.

Back to the topic..Baldie..try watching blue crush to see some of those gnarly waves, and people go down on them. More people have died at Pipeline than anywhere else in the world!

i noticed from another thread that you are just learning to turn, therfore if you try pipeline you have a good chance of injury or even death

tomcat thats exactly what i was saying before... stop thinking you know a break because you saw it on a movie. why dont you come out here and see for yourself... come this summer, ill let you pick the day, and ill pay for your trip if you see waves that big at pipeline. believe it or not, pipeline is completely flat on more days than it is huge like in the movies.

watch lethal wepon and see if you think everyday cop life is really like that.

and blue crush is a chicks movie.

Yes, I'm still learning on turning after I stood up on the board. I only seemed to be able to go straight. That sucks...

I go to Cliffs too at Diamond Head. I usually go with my friend at around 5pm. What time do you go??? I go to the North Shore on the weekends.

Who has tried Pipeline before???

I'm scared to go now because I went to the two breaks next to Pipeline in the North Shore. I think it called Ehukai or Pupukea. The waves were about about 3 to 5 foot (hawaiian scale). It was so powerful, much more powerful than Diamond Head or Heleiwa. I will wait for me to get better before going out to pipeline. I wish to go with someone who has experience in Pipeline.

Sometimes I think I'm scary too. I'm thinking to go on a small day. That's my goal anyway to surf at Pipeline. People fly here from all over the world to surf at Pipeline. And I'm lucky enough to live in Hawaii. I can't miss out.

I have only paddled out to look cool. Took the long way around, from like half way from waiema bay, then paddled out all the way! I didnt want to duck dive that stuff!! Thats some nasty reef!
I didnt catch a wave, it was like 4-6ft, and crowded like heck! Just looks good when you paddle in from Banzai and get up on the beach with not 1 scratch! I was only a kid!

So, i suggest fiding some less brutal breaks. Something mellow. If you know some "local" surfers and are friends, then maybe they could let you in some pretty awesome lil secret spots!

BUT, do be warned, the hawaiin surfers wont beat you up, they will tell you to get out of the water and cut a nice hole in your tires,

Dont give me crap about telling him to watch blue crush. I am saying, if you havent seen Pipeline on a nice day, it has all the footage!
Once again, I dont want to hear you crap about locals, who is, and who isn't. WE ARE ALL SURFERS! isnt that good enough?
