HELP !!! Is it important to you how your board looks like ?

Postby tigger » Wed Mar 01, 2006 11:26 am

I'm a non surfer in the moment because I live in Germany and here isn't the best place to surf...My last ride on a board is more then 9 years ago
( shame on me !)

I' m study design and I'm still read everything about surfing and catch
everything what I can get about surfing....and as an prospective designer, there's one question in my mind....Is the design of your board
important to you, did you try to make it unique to you...is it important to be different to other Surfers....What do you think about such big brands like Quicksilver or O'Neill....?

PLEASE help me, I need a feedbag....please

I guess it's only really important if like my you're pretty shallow :D

I think it's nice to have a unique board, that's why we get customs right. Mine's pretty vast and has rails in an offensive shade of yellow. I think it's important to like your board, and looks are a part of that.

I have a couple of pretty loud boards. When I ordered them it seemed to be important for me to get very ostentatious boards, but to be honest when I go surfing at a spot where its testing conditions with a few really good surfers mutilating the faces I wouldn't mind a plain white board again  !

Tigger,

I may be in the minority here, but if I was 14 or 16, then I would think that some "kewl" design on the board may be important.

In reality, MY board is actually kind of ugly and I don't think adding any decals or design to it is going to help.

Now if you're on the pro circuit and have sponsors, well that's a whole different thing. In that case you're being PAID to show off some designs and you better do it on the podium!

However, I'm thinking that with my next board purchase, comfort and ride will be much more important than the picture glassed into the face (or bottom) will be.

Just my two cents. I'd like to hear from those on this forum who DO want a killer graphic on their board. I would like to see both sides of this for some reason.

I like my boards like I like my clothes.....quality, but with a very small logo or no logo at all. Things come in and out of fashion so quickly these days (remember flourescent wetsuits) so for me, I prefer to keep low key and a bit anonymous.

if i were to have a board shaped with a graphic on i would have a picture of my guitar on the deck. however i believe that function comes before form so id prefer to have a board that works for me than one with a cool picture on it.

so no its not really important to me!
