What's wrong with magic seaweed?

Well, okay, the obvious - it uses computer programs to generate the prediction, and shows offshore bouy wave heights so everyone gets excited about small ripples, but I didnt mean that...

Look at the Week Summary and it'll say one thing, then go to the detailed view and it says something completely different!

Fr'instance...
K-bay on sunday - four dark stars! Woohoo!

but detailed view - three stars at six am, fading to no stars by 9am!!

That's not very helpful! :?

post on the forums and ask Ben im sure if theres a problem he would want to know about it i belive hes updating the site atm

anyway its not ment to give an accurate forcast of how big the swell will be at any beach you have to use a bit of common sence and local knowlege of the breaks to know what its gonna be like

it states it on the forcast pages

Our forecasts are for offshore swell. It's very important to realise that the heights given will not necessarily be the same as the breaking wave heights on the beach. Our forecasts are based primarily on the NWW3 model and are most usefully used in the same way as wave buoy data, interpreted with local knowledge to estimate the actual conditions on the beach. To find out more click the info buttons on the forecast or read our tutorials.
Current conditions reports are based on the latest forecast conditions, not on wave buoy observations.

i never really look at the star rating on it just swell height, period, direction and wind, then work out the chances of there being some decent waves, even then i never get it right all the time

this taken from there home page could explan it as well

Data Problem
The NOAA servers are experiencing problems and we didn't get the latest forecasts this morning. Bear with us while it gets sorted - it may mean some forecast pages aren't displaying properly today and data that is showing is up to 24 hours old.

The stars are simply a lamens guide (dark stars for swell) grey stars if the winds gonne mess it up.

local knowledge is key. Use the actual wind and swell data not the stars!
