Hello people......
Just recently got into surfing and am absolutley loving it .To aid my surfing I invested in a Bic performer 7'6'' minimal, But after readin this forum evreybody sems to be real down on all that is Bic. Why is this?
I think their awesome........Because their indestrucatble, i smashed into a rockthis morning and the only damage was to me and my half drowned pride.

BIC's are great to learn on - they're tough, and they've got loads of volume
This is all great for someone starting out (by which I mean the first couple of years, not like that first time on a piece of foam rubbish).

BUT... as you improve, you'll begin to feel its limitations.
They're very heavy, they dont have much drive, and they have thick stubby rails, and they're relatively poor performing compared to a custom board.

They're also limited by the pop-out nature of them - you cant have the board you want. Each surfer is different and likes their boards slightly different, and if you get them custom made, you can get one perfect for you


So thats why BICs and pop-outs get slagged off. But they're perfect to learn and improve on before moving on up

its all a pride thing...i see someone with a bic and it screams beginner...that and i cant help but think of pens when i see them

yep all of the above is true. Bics are beginner boards as they cant take a good thrashing. I started on a 7"3 bic mini mal and was great to learn on but after 5 months I grew out of it and got a 6"10 funboard (custom board) and its great - much faster, lighter and more drive. It makes the bic feel dull and heavy - really holds you back after a while, they arent very good for progressing on I think.

I think bics are used to just master poping up and turning. Im thinking of selling my BIC as I cant see my using it again after expiriencing the ride of a custom board.

How does everyone feel about a 7'10" NSP funboard for a beginner?

A guy Ive taken out surfing with me had one of those boards and to be honest I really dont like them , they are far to heavy.

brooklyn i think thats a great beginner board...it will be good to learn on and you wont grow out of it so to speak skill wise for a good little while...i taught my girl on that exact board and it was perfect.
