Advice on this Ebay Surfboard!!!

Hi all,

Saw this Surfboard on Ebay and is exactly what i'm after!

Is this a good price and a good board?

I've Emailed him to send me some larger pics, also asking if there are any major dints etc on it and he replied with this

"I'll send you some larger pics tonight when i get home. There are 2 small dings on the tail due to them being quite pointed (swallow tail). i've repaired them with some epoxy stick. Other than that it is like new. cheers"

Shallow tail? i know this is the type of tail, but what is it used for etc???
Also, this eproxy stuff, does it do the job?

Please help.

What level of surfing are you at?
6'8 might be a bit short, but thats for you to judge...


Swallow tail - gives good drive, so its best on small waves where it'll feel quite loose ie turn easily but might be a bit wobbly if you're not all that experienced. The board will struggle in larger waves though.

As for the dings - I wouldnt worry about the pressure dings on the deck (although how did he manage dings in the deck if it was only used a few times?), but the cracks in the tail will probably have to be properly repaired quite soon (He does say they're temporary). You can do it yourself, but probably better to let your local shaper to do it. Wont cost much.

What level am i at? Well i've owned a long foam board for a few years now and can easilt get up on that each time. Friend of mine bought a brand new DHD board (6'8 19.5wide 2 5/8thick)...

Now with this board, the few times i did get out past the breakers and got a clean wave, i could get up on it but was a bit wobbly. If i practice enough though, i'm sure this size board should be ok...

Thats a good thing, as i don't think i'm keen enough to tackle any big waves for a while yet!! In what way will it struggle with larger waves?

I've uploaded larger pics, looks in pretty good overall shape, except for the tail.

Also one more question.

Whats the difference between a rounded nose on a board, rather than a pointy one??

How big are you ??? height/weight & how big was your previous longboard? I'd probably start somwhere in between your height & you current board length....i.e. if you are 6ft tall & currently riding a 10'0 really really well why not add an 8'0" as a second board for faster "hollower" breaks ???

this first photo is my 9'8" high -perf. & the second is my 11'0" Noserider. Each one has totally diff. dimensions & one may often be better than another for different conditions & for different breaks.

I'm only 5'6-7, the previous board i was riding is pretty darn big. Foam thing with a hard bottom, quite heavy too with heaps of bouancy!!

I don't really want to go for something too big as it won't fit in my car. As long as its got decent bouyancy, which my mates DHD 6'8 board has got then i'll be happy.

@ your height you should be just fine. Unless u are quite heavy or the board is quite thin or narrow. But looks good. Don't store the board in your car....It'll delam over time. Just transport it that way if need be (best to get some racks really.

Oh i forgot to mention, i weigh about 73kgs!!

What do you mean by it will delam??
Whats the differences between having it in your car or on top of your car with roof racks??

The wider nose will allow you to catch wavies easier and will be more stable. A narrow pointer nose provides more preformance (tighter/snappier turns).

The dings right on the points of the swallow tail can be a little tricky to fix (he probably wasn't very carful when he put the board down, standing up). Allthough, an experience person can probably fix them with out too much trouble.

If the board fits in the car, I would transport it that way. No chance of losing it off the racks or getting dings from rocks. Also it won't be getting beaten up by the sun on the trip to the ocean. Plus you won't be adverting the fact that you're going surfing (or, where you're going surfing).
