Any Virginia riders? (Va. Beach)

Postby hicarbon » Wed Aug 24, 2005 10:04 pm

I'm new to surfing (Hoping to get my first board within the next week or two) and have been checking out some places in Va. Beach that seem good for surfing. Was just wondering if anyone was from the area and knew of any good places to start? I'll probably head out to 1st st. where the dunes are (Where they hold the ECSC each year) and I heard that up around 80th has some good waves for surfing. Also, I'm hoping to be buying a 6'9 Rusty Pintail, think I'll be able to do much on it around the area?

I surfed in North Carlina before. It was during the summer so not much in the area of swells, I wasn't a big fan.

haha

we should do a Surfing-Waves East Coast meet up sometime this summer after I take off some of my rusty-ness. maybe we should mix it with the Swaylocks one that might be happening

does anybody surf Assateuge?(sp) I was thinking of camping out up there this summer for waves, but then somebody mentioned Charleston area instead, so I dunno.

I've surfed Assateague quite a few times. It's generally has more of a slope to the wave than up in Ocean City. It makes for an easier drop, at least for me.

Assateuge is an island up in VA right? i've heard of it but never made the trip...they get good swell?

If you wanna make a trip we should hit the Cape, the best surf around me anyways...ever hit that up?

It's a barrier island, most of it is in Maryland, but extends into Virginia as well.
It has it's days...similar to the whole DelMarVa region...most of the major impact of swells hit NC or NJ.

I still haven't surfed there, surfed duck, corrola, but not hatteras. maybe we should hook up some time during the summer, if I can grab a car for the weekend

When I get a little better I'd be up for taveling, but right now I'm not sure sure it would be worth it. Maybe by summer or fall...

Hey I'm just a beginner - but I had fun at Fenwick Island, DE (just north of Ocean City) last summer. Planning to go there again for various weekends this summer (I live in DC). Probably won't be as fun for you more experienced surfers - but it was cool for me :)

do yall know anything about Cedar point or Cedar island on the eastern shore? I've been talking with someone about some good places to camp over there, and he says it is amazing. you can be there for a week, and you might see one other group, usually not though. he said it was clay bottom in spots, and is basically just like the rest of the east coast swell-wise. said it was better than VaB.

anybody heard of it? I definately think I might give it a try come this spring.

its up by me on the eastern shore of virginia....I'll look up the name later. the guy who told me about it says when you are out there, you just sit and think how many people have seen, or will ever see what you are seeing just because it is so remote.
