Best way to fight the cold!!!

Postby bgdkmetzger2003 » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:07 am

I heard this from another guy and actually tried it myself, and it works really well. I surf in San Diego. The water temp right now is like 56 degrees I think. I have a 3-2 wetsuit with 3-2 booties. I was starting to get really cold. Then I started filling up a gatorade bottle with hot water and taking it to the beach with me. Right before I get in the water, I pour the warm water into my wetsuit. It keeps me really warm because it prevents that first bit of cold water from coming in. Give it a try. :)

Why not drink the hot water then take a leak in your wetsuit? That'll work even better...

I have done that for waterskiing, but with a shower, worked pretty good. you do lose a bit of warm water in place of cold water, but makes you start off good.

I wear a 5/4/3 C Skins angel wing wettie in the winter. The angel wing stops flushes of water coming in through the zip :D , its mega warm without any hot water etc needed!!!

The sea temp here is 9 degrees C i think - so thats 48F :?

If you want to be really warm before you get into the water on a cold day and are driving down to the beach just put your wetsuit on before you leave the house - you'll be toasty by the time you actually get in the water.

Have alot of respect for all of you cold water surfers. I've never surf in water temp. below 75 F. Except a couple times in Florida in the winter and then it wasn't that cold around 60F. The love of surfing. Bless you all

56 degrees is cold if you dont have a thick enough wetsuit. I noticed everyone seems to have thicker than 3-2. I usually put my suit on before i go to the beach and keep the heater on in the car and then dump the hot water in, just to fight the initial cold. After a while I think it just get warmed up anyways. Last year I didnt even wear a wetsuit until November!!! I had to put one on because the bones in my arms were aching because I was so cold. Pussy??

no!!! i wont!! i wont!!!! just the idea makes me cringe. my first wetsuit I had when I was like 10 my pop said dont piss in it, itll be nasty, so I just dont....

44 degree water or air?

speaking of cold, I was skiing yesterday (sucked royally yesterday, rain and 45) then around 5 pm, the fog lifted, the clouds left, and the wind started to blow, and blow, and blow.....

someone with us had one of those little mounted wind guages and they said it was steady 30-40 MPH winds with a highest of like a 56 mph gust. this is while it was dropping to 20.......

I looked up the windchill, turns out it was -22....

now that was friggin cold!

To fight the cold the first thing I do before go surfing is to shower with warm water and finish showering with cold water.
I have a very long hair and having it already wet is less shocking when the wave hits you.

If it is not too cold I put on an already wet wetsuit.

eugh! there's nothing worse for me than putting on a cold, wet wetsuit on a freezing cold day!
There's nothing better than driving to the beach in boardies with the windows blasting and hot air scorching you, to get into the very warm water and have a quality surf! Having said that, I still enjoy surfing all through the year, whether the surf is good or not. I just make sure I'm dressed up all warm, and I put my rashie on for the drive to the beach... I sweat like a biznatch!
