Its genres of music that have become attached to the surfing image. Obiviously the main ones are chilled/funky ska/reggae/acostic etc. You can speak to individuals and their musical taste will very as ever but yes, sterotypically it runs true.

Does that make sence?

jack johnson reiterates the same unoriginal melodies throughout entire albums. they are very catchy.. i like them, but still.

Surf music is completely instrumental, I'm talking about the real surf music like Dick Dale, The surfaris etc...

I am with uRa, while alot of music may work for each of us, I have always thought of 'surf music' the the mostly instrumental music from bands like The Ventures, The Challengers, Link Wray, etc...

the shins
sigur ros
elliot smith
six organs of admittance
paul simon
nick drake
led zepplin
rolling stones

espers
davendra banhard
badly drawn boy
emitt rhodes

explosions in the sky
nico
go sailor
radiohead
jeff buckley
damien rice
yo la tengo
my bloody valentine

the microphones
belle and sebastian

indie hiphop (pretty "chill")
aesop rock

Definitely some punk to get you hyped, try goldfinger, greenday, sum 41, jimmy eat world, blink 182, guttermouth. Those sorta bands are always in the CD player on the drive to the beach!!!

If you want chilled out when you are wiped on the way home check out an awesome aussie band called "the Beautiful girls" they are awesome, also maybe Donovan Frankenrieter and Xavier Rudd....

rock/metal all the way.. chill music puts you to sleep before you go in the water and then you drown. not cool.
