I started last year when I was 27. I wanted to surf all my life... well since I was 14. Begged my parents for a board but they said no.
well we did not live by the coast so they had a point. But now I live by the coast in stunning Cape Town.
Got my board with my first pay cheque.
Anyhow I dont think it matters when you start.
as long as you start. cause 'only a surfer knows the feeling' as they say...

I first surfed when I was 14 when on holiday in Cornwall. I loved it, but never got chance to do it again. I started bodyboarding about 3 years ago, and have just been bought my first surfboard my my other half, so, in effect I'm starting again at the age of nearly 44!!!!

Think it was round 12ish I started on standup... ended up getting stale and board of the same thing over and over again... paddle-pop-up-turn-cuttie-etc... same old same old till i was 16ish

Then I switched to b00ging and realised my true calling. I love it. Its so versitile. :)

Way to late in life....

Postby hd76xlh » Fri Jan 13, 2006 12:23 am

at the age of 45. Kinda strange I live right on the beach, and watched surfers for the last 20 years, but in 2005 I decided to become one.

I started at 25, i'm now 29. I have played in differents sport, when i was 10-20 i used to play baseball, basketball, soccer and so on. Then I started to climb, mountaineering, mountain bike, kayaking, adventure racing, but once i started surfing, that's all i have done most of the time when i'm not at work.

I started when I was 20. Because of an ankle injury I had to leave snowboarding for a while. Started surfing/travelling. Always knew injuries were good for something.

Haven't snowboarded for 6 years now.
