Do you kick on take-off?

Postby ntmonkey » Mon Jan 09, 2006 10:31 am

I'm just curious if kicking helps and how many of you do that on take-off. I do it just because I was told to when I started, and have been ever since. More importantly, I just want to know if it helps seeing how energy is such a precious resource when you're out there.

peace,

Lu

yes I always kick off , as I try not to paddle like a demon to catch the waves, I think also actually being in the correct jump off point helps as you have the full force of the wave behind you to shoot you forward

I do it when I don't think I'm gonna make it. Thinking about it now, it doesnt seem like it would be doing much, since my feet aren't too far off the back....I dont think......man, its been a while.

anyways, I use the extra "power" if it might not happen. But I really think that kicking hard makes me exert the rest of my force as well. I don't know how bad it actually looks, but I feel like I look weird when I do it.

If I don't have to, I try not to.

I don't kick, cos my feet aren't off the back far enough, but I also start paddling early and get up a good bit of speed before the wave catches me! That way I don't paddle like an idiot!!

I kick when Im on my fish, so Im told, but not 'cos I think it alters the take-off... I think its more that Im the kind of idiot that cant pat his head and rub his tummy at the same time

I end up kicking unintentionally when really scratching for a wave - don't think it helps but its automatic for me.
